LaGrange man charged in stabbing

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Bret A. Crum, age 47 of LaGrange, in connection with a stabbing that occurred at 28 Horseshoe Drive in LaGrange at approximately 12:32 am on 11/7/14.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with the State Police to the above location for a report of a stabbing and a subject armed with a knife, however upon arrival the suspect had fled the scene on foot. During a search of the area using Deputies, Troopers and a Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the suspect was located in a wooded area close to the scene. At that time, he was positively identified as Mr. Crum and taken into custody.

Investigation has revealed that Mr. Crum resides at 28 Horseshoe Drive with his girlfriend and a male tenant who lives downstairs. At one point there was a dispute between the two men, at which time Mr. Crum is accused of stabbing the other man in the chest. The victim was transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and Mr. Crum was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for interview and processing.

Mr. Crum has been charged with assault in the 2nd degree, which is a Class D felony. After being processed, Mr. Crum was arraigned before the Town of LaGrange Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.

As with any criminal case, the charges described here are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
