July 4th Crackdown Details Lead To 28 Arrests in Dutchess County

During the Fourth of July Day Crackdown period of July 1, 2016 thru July 5, 2016 members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Town of Hyde Park Police Department, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, City of Beacon Police Department, Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department & Village of Red Hook Police Department conducted Impaired Driving details consisting of Saturation Patrols throughout the county.  The arrests included 19 impaired driving arrests as well as 8 other arrests.

These details were funded by the Governors Traffic Safety Committee and the NYS STOP-DWI Foundation which for the 3rd year in a row once again awarded the Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program a “Crackdown Enforcement Grant” for the 2015-2016 Crackdown periods.   The objective of this continued enforcement grant is to revitalize and enhance the visibility of the STOP-DWI Program through coordinated multi-agency impaired driving enforcement details targeting identified statewide crackdown periods.   They also include the assignment of certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) to aid in the identification and apprehension of drivers impaired by drugs other than alcohol.

Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator William Johnson stated, "the results of these coordinated patrols conducted during high risk time periods on our roadways are a reminder for all to be mindful of your actions and to celebrate responsibly while attending summer parties and gatherings. Make smart decisions and avoid the consequences of an impaired driving arrest, or worse."
