County Executive Announces New Route 22 Planning Effort
 

Poughkeepsie... Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus announced that Dutchess County is working with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) in the development of the Route 22 Access Management Plan. This project is an outgrowth of the Route 22 Corridor Management Plan, which was initiated by the County Executive in his 2000 State of the County Address. The Corridor Management Plan was completed in mid-2002 and was a cooperative effort of Dutchess County, the Poughkeepsie-Dutchess County Transportation Council (PDCTC), and the Harlem Valley Partnership.

“The development of an Access Management Plan was one of the major recommendations of the first Route 22 plan,” said County Executive Steinhaus, who also chairs the PDCTC. “We appreciate NYSDOT’s recognition of the importance of Route 22 in Dutchess County, and their interest in moving this new project forward so soon.”

The County Executive and NYSDOT Regional Director, Robert A. Dennison III, have sent joint letters to the supervisors and mayors in the Amenia, Dover, North East, Pawling, Millerton and Pawling Village asking them to identify people to serve on a study advisory committee. “We look forward to building on the very successful public-private partnership that was forged in the initial Route 22 Corridor Management Plan,” said Steinhaus. “The project will also assist the Harlem Valley communities in their efforts to implement some of the strategies incorporated in the Dutchess County Greenway Connections that are designed to promote growth and protect community character.”

The Route 22 Access Management Plan is expected to start in mid-April and be complete by early 2004.

The Poughkeepsie-Dutchess County Transportation Council is the regional transportation planning organization for Dutchess County and the Town of Lloyd (Ulster County). The PDCTC is chaired by County Executive William Steinhaus, and includes representatives from Ulster County, the New York State Department of Transportation, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and local municipalities
