County Commissioner of Information Systems Appointed

Poughkeepsie... Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus is pleased to announce his selection of Timothy E. Mahler as Dutchess County Commissioner of the Office of Computer Information Systems (OCIS). Mr. Mahler’s appointment is effective Monday, September 15, 2003. Mahler, 45, resides in the Staatsburg with his wife of 22 years, Donyelle.

Steinhaus stated, “Tim Mahler is a highly regarded professional both inside and outside county government. His extensive experience and education in information systems is exactly what Dutchess County needs to continue moving us forward. Mr. Mahler is capable of positioning the county to take advantage of the latest technological advances, which are necessary for an efficient, effective and accessible government. I am confident in Tim’s leadership abilities and look forward to working with him in his new capacity.”

Mr. Mahler, a graduate of Dutchess Community College has been in public service with the county’s Office of Computer Information Systems since 1979, serving the last 17 years as a Systems Manager until he was appointed Acting Commissioner earlier this year.

“I am honored that the County Executive has selected me to direct OCIS as we move forward with many new initiatives to improve county services. I appreciate his confidence in me and know that this also reflects the strong teamwork of my colleagues,” Mahler said.

The Commissioner of the Office of Computer Information Systems is responsible for the total operation of a growing Computer Center. A thorough knowledge of countywide administrative procedures, ever-changing technologies, strategic planning, business methods and procedures is required to fulfill this position. The office oversees an annual $3.5 million budget and the supervision of 46 employees. The position became vacant in December 2002 with the retirement of former Commissioner Edward Imperatore.

As is required by the Dutchess County Charter, a resolution to confirm Mr. Mahler’s appointment as Commissioner of the Office of Computer Information Systems has been forwarded to the County Legislature.
