County Partners with
Poughkeepsie Public Library to Establish a
Caregiver Resource Center
Poughkeepsie. . . Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus has
announced the signing of an agreement with the Poughkeepsie Public Library
District for expansion of the Dutchess County Caregiver Resource Center.
Under the agreement the
County will provide the Poughkeepsie Public Library District with additional
funding for books, videos and other resource materials, plus maintenance of the
Center. Materials are available to anyone within the Mid Hudson Library
System.
County Executive Steinhaus praised
the Poughkeepsie Public Library District for helping to make these important
materials so easily available, stating “My hope is that through this
partnership these resources will reach the widest potential distribution and
that we would be able to continue to add to and update them annually.”
Among the many titles available in
the collection are: Are Your Parents Driving You Crazy, Alzheimer’s: The
Answers You Need, Caregiving Daughters: Accepting the Role, Stress Reduction for
Caregivers and Taking Care of Caregivers. You can peruse the
entire collection in person at the Adriance Library on Market Street in
Poughkeepsie, by computer at any Mid Hudson Library System library or your home
computer at www.poklib.org. Selections can
be ordered and delivered directly to your local library for pick-up.
According to County Executive
Steinhaus, “Dutchess County provides a number of support services for family and
volunteer caregivers of the elderly to give them the choice to keep their loved
ones at home for as long as possible. These programs not only save the
government money, they help provide a better quality of life for the elderly and
their families.”
The Caregiver Resource Center is
made possible by the Dutchess County Office for the Aging, a County Agency
funded under Title III of the United States Older Americans Act, the New York
State Office for the Aging, and the County of Dutchess.
