Poughkeepsie… County Executive William R.
Steinhaus has approved contracts for the 2002 Community Development Block Grant
(CDBG) awards totaling $100,000 for two projects in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
The two projects, both infrastructure improvements, include
the purchase and installation of decorative lighting along Davis Avenue
in the Arlington area, and the installation of a water line in the Market
Street Industrial Park in the Wappingers Falls area of the Town.
The awards were granted based upon priorities previously
established in the County’s Consolidated Plan for the use of CDBG funds. The
plan has been accepted and approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD). Dutchess County’s priority one is economic development and
infrastructure.
County Executive Steinhaus stated, ”Through a multi-million
dollar annual appropriation from HUD, Dutchess County is able to fund necessary
infrastructure improvements in our localities, allowing them to make necessary
improvements at a lower cost to save our local real property taxpayers money,
and helping to attract private investment. It is a terrific example of
partnership that works for the benefit of our localities and our residents.”
The CDBG funding is administered by the Dutchess County Department of Planning and Development through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and provides grant funds to municipalities and human service agencies to benefit low to moderate-income residents of Dutchess County.
