Dutchess County
Executive, William R. Steinhaus announced today that the Dutchess County
Department of Health in
partnership with the Dutchess County Chapter of the American Red Cross,
will be providing information and guidance to all Dutchess County residents
regarding disaster preparedness and planning in the event of a disaster or
emergency. The County Health Department will be mailing an information packet
to all households containing material developed and supplied by the American Red
Cross on home disaster preparedness. The Red Cross pamphlets are entitled,
‘Your Family Disaster Plan’ and ‘Terrorism: Preparing for the Unexpected’.
County Executive
Steinhaus stated that, “Since the horrendous events of September 11th
our world has changed dramatically. Americans are concerned about their
individual safety and health. Dutchess County has well developed emergency
plans and has been working continuously to enhance our local response capacity
in the event of terrorism or other event nearby that could affect our
community. Each one of us can play a role in our community’s preparedness.
There are reasonable, commonsense actions that you can do to prepare and protect
yourself and your family in the event of an emergency. Dutchess County and the
Dutchess County Chapter of the American Red Cross are collaborating to assist
you with this planning. Working together in our own ways we can strengthen our
community and our nation.”
Michele Conrad, Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Dutchess County Chapter said, “The American Red Cross has a long and successful tradition of helping people and communities protect themselves against disasters and rebuild when a disaster does strike. We have utilized our experience and the best available information to develop these materials as a guide to individual families on what they can do to prepare for terrorism or natural disasters. We are pleased to make this important information available to our neighbors throughout Dutchess. Through knowledge and practical planning we can reduce the level of fear about things that seem incomprehensible and exert a measure of control even in the face of such events.”
