COUNTY EXECUTIVE ANNOUNCES REPLACEMENT
OF COUNTY BRIDGE IN THE TOWN OF RED HOOK
Poughkeepsie….Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus announced the
upcoming replacement of a County bridge in the Town of Red Hook at Swamp Road
(CR80) spanning over Stony Brook.
The existing bridge, built in
1937, has been inspected by New York State and categorized as structurally
deficient by New York State Inspection. Dutchess County Department of Public
Works Engineering Division has prepared the plans/specifications and contract
documents, which was advertised to receive bids from contractors. A. Colarusso
& Sons, Co. was the lowest responsible bidder among the nine bidders with a bid
amount of $468,604, which is to be funded from existing County bridge bond
funds.
Work will include removal of
the existing three span open and steel deck structure and constructing a single
67’ long span with prestressed box beam superstructure capped with concrete
deck. The new bridge deck will have two travel lanes as well as shoulders
producing a total width of nearly 32’ versus the 23’ existing bridge width.
Increased span length of the new structure will also provide a larger waterway
opening.
The construction work is
tentatively scheduled to start April 22, 2002, and continue through the end of
June, 2002, weather permitting.
The road will be closed at
the bridge location and a designated detour road will be posted for motorists.
