Poughkeepsie… County Executive William Steinhaus and Dutchess County Water and Wastewater Authority Chairman Thomas LeGrand have announced the signing of agreements that will make available County funds for an engineering review of the Shorehaven Water System in the Town of Pawling. 

Executive Steinhaus stated, “I am pleased to once again work with the Authority and a local community to review their water infrastructure needs. The quality, quantity, and affordability of water is a vital concern to all of us.”

Steinhaus has released up to $9,500 for the Water and Wastewater Authority engineering review which will be used in evaluating existing facilities in the Shorehaven System.  The system presently serves approximately 100 homes near Whaley Lake in the Town of Pawling.

According to Chairman Thomas LeGrand, “The funding made available from the County Executive’s annual budget is critical to the Authority’s efforts to assist local communities.”

The Authority, which operates ten water and sewer systems in six municipalities, will engage an independent engineering firm to evaluate the water system presently managed by the Shorehaven Civic Association. The engineering study will include a review of past reports and information available from the Health Department, field inspection, and an evaluation report summarizing performance and compliance issues as well as system deficiencies and equipment condition.

“This collaborative effort between Dutchess County and the Water and Wastewater Authority has proven successful on other projects, and I am happy the County can help with the review of the Shorehaven Water System as well,” stated David Kelly, County Legislator, District 23.

The review is planned for early in 2006.
