Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus celebrated the achievements of twenty-six Dutchess County Government and Dutchess Community College employees as he presented each of them their Management Development Leadership Program certificate at the inaugural graduation ceremony held today at Dutchess Community College.
County Executive Steinhaus said, “One of the best investments we can make is to provide job enhancement and training opportunities for our employees. Our Management Development Leadership Program helps us develop the future leaders who will responsible for delivering the valuable programs and services offered by county government to our community residents.”
The Management Development Leadership Program is non-credit certificate program for supervisory and managerial staff looking to build a solid foundation and better understanding of what is needed to succeed as a supervisor. It is also an opportunity for experienced managers who want to refine their skills. The program was developed in collaboration between Dutchess County Department of Personnel and Dutchess Community College Office of Community Services and Special Programs. Participants take five core workshops and selected elective workshops for a minimum total of 60 hours of training.
This is the first class to graduate from the Management Development Leadership Program. The program began in the Fall of 2006 and participants completed their final courses in December 2007. Participants have up to two years to complete the required 60 hours of training to qualify for the certificate.
Dutchess County Equal Employment Opportunity Officer Curtis Forbes said, “This program was developed based on the feedback we have received through the County’s Exit Interview Program. We appreciate the support of County Executive Steinhaus and each of the department heads for providing the opportunity to employees to participate in this training. Organizations work best when employees are afforded opportunities to develop new skills.”
Core courses in the Management Development Leadership Program include:
-
Fundamentals of Supervision
-
Effective Business Communication
-

Participants can also select from seven elective courses such as: “Building High Performance Work Teams,” “Conducting Effective Performance Appraisals,” “Positive Motivation and Constructive Discipline,” and more.
