Poughkeepsie… Seven Dutchess County fire departments have deployed resources to assist with the massive wildfire at Sam’s Point Preserve in Ulster County.  The Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response (DCER) worked with the local departments to respond to the inter-county mutual aid request from Ulster County Emergency Services.

Nearly 30 firefighters have responded with a variety of equipment resources including brush trucks, utility terrain vehicles (UTV) and support vehicles.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said, “We have been actively communicating with officials in Ulster County to offer our assistance with controlling the brush fire at Sam’s Point Preserve. We are grateful to the firefighters from departments across Dutchess County today providing necessary support in battling this massive wildfire.”

Responding fire departments include:
•    Beekman Fire Department
•    East Fishkill Fire Department
•    Pleasant Valley Fire Department
•    Milan Fire Department
•    Millbrook Fire Department
•    Tivoli Fire Department
•    Union Vale Fire Department

Sam’s Point Preserve is located in the Shawangunk Mountains and features very thick brush and terrain that is difficult to access.    Hundreds of emergency crews have responded to address the fire that has scorched more than 800 acres.
