Poughkeepsie…The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced rehabilitation work is expected to begin the week of July 20th to replace existing deteriorated beams on Bridge E-9 on Palen Road (CR 31) in the Town of East Fishkill. During repair, one-lane of the bridge will remain open at all times with a controlled traffic signal. The bridge, located over the Fishkill Creek, is a critical link for Dutchess County’s highway system, averaging approximately 9,600 vehicles per day.

Repair work will be completed in two stages, with one-lane remaining open at all times. The first stage is expected to be completed this fall. The second stage will be completed in spring 2016.

In 2014, the bridge was closed to traffic for the replacement of deteriorated guiderail and later re-opened. The maximum load on the bridge was reduced to 13 tons due to deteriorating beams. The 13 ton weight restriction will be lifted upon completion of the beam replacement. Additionally, the bridge will be raised slightly and expanded to create 3’ shoulders.
