Poughkeepsie…The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced the Linden Avenue Bridge over the Saw Kill Creek in the Town of Red Hook has been closed to ALL traffic following a New York State DOT inspection late yesterday. The inspection found severe deterioration of the bridge’s steel girders and a Prompt Interim Action (PIA) was issued. Vehicles will be detoured to Rockefeller Lane, Route 9 or Route 199. The bridge will be open for bicycle and pedestrian use.

The bridge has been open under a vehicle weight restriction since 2013 that limited the allowable load to a maximum of three tons. Since the load restriction was implemented, DPW has crafted a replacement plan for the bridge and has been acquiring the necessary right-a-way authorizations. The project was slated to begin in spring 2016.

With the bridge’s closure, project bids will be issued immediately to expedite the start of the bridge replacement, allowing the project to begin as soon as possible in 2015, pending acquisition of all necessary right-a-ways.
