Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro and Division of Veterans Services Director Nelson Eddy Rivera invite all to participate in a special Memorial Day ceremony and vigil to be held on the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park in honor of those who gave their lives in defense of our great nation. The event will be held at the Flag Pole in the center of the Walkway on Sunday, May 25th at 7:45 p.m.
The event will feature a flag ceremony conducted with the Pleasant Valley American Legion, Highland Veterans of Foreign Wars and New York State Park Police. A retired flag presentation to the family of Sgt. Mark Palmateer, first Dutchess County man to be killed in action in Afghanistan, will take place, and 50 members of Buglers Across America will span the Walkway to play Taps.
The public is invited to join in this special event by bringing a flash light, glow stick or other lighted object (no open flames allowed) to help illuminate the Walkway with a special Sunset Illumination Vigil.
