Poughkeepsie...Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, in cooperation with the American Red Cross, is coordinating the opening of an overnight warming shelter to assist residents who continue to be impacted by power outages that have resulted from the winter storm. The shelter will open tonight at 7pm at the Poughkeepsie Middle School located at 55 College Avenue in the City of Poughkeepsie.
More than 7,000 Central Hudson customers in Dutchess County remain without power. Dutchess County Medical Reserve Corp (MRC) volunteers will assist with the American Red Cross by providing staffing for tonight’s shelter operation.
Residents should bring bedding including blankets and pillows and any necessary medications as well as other personal necessities such as cell phone chargers. Families with children should bring some toys or other items for quiet enjoyment. Those with special dietary needs are encouraged to bring necessary food and/or beverages.
Information about the shelter operations is available by contacting the American Red Cross at 471-0200. Info is also available by calling 2-1-1.
Information from Dutchess County Emergency Operations Center continues to be available on the County’s social media pages including Facebook and Twitter at Dutchess County Emergency Management and Dutchess County Government.
