Poughkeepsie… Memorial Day is Monday, May 27th. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and Veterans Services Director Nelson Eddy Rivera, USN (Ret) encourage residents to remember the sacrifices of veterans who have died in service to our country and participate in the many Memorial Day ceremonies and parades taking place across the county. The Dutchess County Division of Veterans will host a special Memorial Day Illumination ceremony and vigil at the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park on Sunday, May 26th at 7:45 pm at the flag pole in the center of the Walkway.
This special sunset Illumination of the Walkway vigil event will feature a flag ceremony conducted with the Pleasant Valley American Legion, Highland Veterans of Foreign Wars and New York State Park Police. The Daniel Center, Inc. will be honored with a Retired Flag Presentation, and members of Buglers Across America will span the Walkway to play Taps. The public is invited to join in this special event by bringing a flash light, glow stick or other lighted object (no open flames allowed) to help illuminate the Walkway.
Additionally, the Dutchess County Division of Veteran Services has reached out to local municipalities and community organizations and has compiled a listing of ceremonies and parades happening over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
