Poughkeepsie…Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro invites residents of all ages to learn more about maple sugaring at the County’s Bowdoin Park on Sunday, March 18th from 12pm to 4pm. The event is FREE to the public.
Dutchess County park naturalist David Beck will be teaching the age old art of maple sugaring. They will explore both modern and Native American methods used to create maple syrup. The event will be both indoors and outside and will include demonstrations of tapping a sugar maple tree, boiling sap with hot rocks and by evaporator, and starting fire by friction. Demonstrations will be held on a rotating schedule, so come for as little or long as you like!
“Our maple sugaring program is just one of the great programs offered at Bowdoin Park,” said Dutchess County Parks Director Steven Olsen. “We have a wide array of weekend and summer programs to take advantage of as well as custom programs for schools and scouting groups.”
To learn more about the maple sugaring programs or any of the other programs at Bowdoin Park, visit the Parks Department page at www.dutchessny.gov or call 845-298-4602. Bowdoin Park is located at 85 Sheafe Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
