The Dutchess County Parks Division will once again host two popular maple sugar events at Bowdoin Park in the Town of the Poughkeepsie this month: the annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 16th and the Maple Open House on Saturday, March 23rd. Both events are open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.
"Dutchess County’s award-winning parks have so much to offer and our annual Pancake Breakfast and Maple Open House events provide families and children of all ages the chance to explore the beautiful Bowdoin Park, learn about the art and history of making maple syrup, and even taste syrup made locally at the park,” said County Executive Marc Molinaro.
The Pancake Breakfast will be held Saturday, March16th from 8am to 11:30am and is the perfect opportunity to enjoy locally made syrup from Bowdoin Park with a homemade breakfast. The breakfast will be held in the Community Center Auditorium and tickets are first come, first served. The cost to attend is $5 per person, with children ages 6 and under free of charge. Bowdoin Park’s award-winning maple syrup will also be available for purchase during the event. View or download the Pancake Breakfast flyer (.pdf).
As part of the Maple Open House on Saturday, March 23rd from 10am to 2pm, participants can take part in a hands-on learning experience about the art of making maple syrup. Participants will engage in the different steps of the maple syrup process from tapping the trees to collecting the sap and boiling it down to syrup. Native American methods for creating maple sugar will also be explored.
Activities will be held in Bowdoin Park’s Maple Sugar Shed and the Education Center Quad. The Maple Sugar Shed will be open throughout the day with demonstrations of how maple syrup is made. Maple syrup will also be available for tasting and purchase during the event. In addition to the scheduled events, Bowdoin Park’s history and nature exhibits within the education building will be open. View or download the Maple Open House flyer (.pdf).
