POUGHKEEPSIE … Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino and the County’s Office of Veterans Affairs invite veterans, military families and the community to attend the County’s Veterans Appreciation Day and Resource Fair on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum’s Henry A. Wallace Visitor and Education Center, 4079 Albany Post Road in Hyde Park. This free event, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is open to the public; no registration is required.

The community event will bring veterans and their families together to celebrate their service and connect them with 22 local organizations and resources available to support them; complimentary light refreshments will be served. The County’s November “Veteran of Distinction” ceremony will take place at 1 p.m., recognizing the life and legacy of U.S. Army First Lieutenant Henry Bialosuknia, a Poughkeepsie native who served with honor during the Vietnam War.

Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino said, “Our veterans have done so much for us, and we can never thank them enough for all they have given to our country. But we can always find ways to show them how much they mean to us. This special day is a chance to come together, celebrate our veterans, help connect them with valuable resources and remind them and their families that their Dutchess County neighbors are here for them. We welcome everyone to join us as we show our veterans just how much Dutchess County cares.”

In addition to the “Veteran of Distinction” ceremony and informational resources tables, the event will feature presentations from the following speakers to educate and assist veterans and their loved ones on relevant topics:

11:30 a.m.: Joe Horesky, Director of Veterans Programs at Mental Health America (MHA) of Dutchess County
11:45 a.m.: Lisa Kopp, Manager for Consumer Outreach & Special Programs for Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp.
Noon: Chris Fontana, Recovery Coach with the Dutchess County Department of Mental Health
12:30 p.m.: Wayne Slaughter, Home Mortgage Consultant

Adam Roche, Director of the Dutchess County Office of Veterans Affairs, reminds our neighbors that honoring veterans means more than thanking them for their service. It means making sure they and their families feel valued, supported and connected to the community they served.

Dutchess County’s Veterans Appreciation Day and Resource Fair is just one way the County is showing its respect to its heroes in November. County Executive Serino and Director Roche invite residents to gather on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. to honor the courageous men and women who have defended our nation’s freedom. Dutchess County’s annual Veterans Day ceremony, held at the Dutchess County War Memorial in Poughkeepsie, provides a meaningful opportunity for the community to come together in gratitude for the service and sacrifice of the Americans who have served in the military.

More information about both events is available by contacting the Dutchess County Office of Veterans Affairs at 845-486-2060 or veterans@dutchessny.gov.
