Amateur radio, or ham radio, operators can communicate across towns, around the world, or even into space without the internet or a cell phone and are essential resources during emergencies or during recovery efforts following natural disasters such as fires, floods, or hurricanes.

The training and exam will be held at the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, located at 392 Creek Road, Poughkeepsie. The two-day licensing class is open to the public and free to attend, but pre-registration is required.  It is recommended participants obtain the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual 4th Edition prior to the first session.
