POUGHKEEPSIE, NY … Poughkeepsie, NY… As Breast Cancer Awareness Month approaches, Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino is excited to once again partner with Walkway Over the Hudson to host a “Breast Cancer Awareness Day” event on Saturday, October 3rd, from 1-3 p.m. on the Poughkeepsie side of the Walkway Over the Hudson, 61 Parker Avenue. This free event is part of an ongoing effort to raise awareness for breast cancer while providing residents with opportunities to connect directly with local organizations and services.
Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, a breast cancer survivor, said, “I know how easy it can be to put off a health appointment when life gets busy. I kept putting mine off, and when I finally went, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. That experience has stayed with me and is why I always encourage others not to wait when it comes to their health. We are incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful organizations right here in Dutchess County, and I’m grateful to partner with the Walkway to bring them together, making it easier for our neighbors to connect with the information, resources and support they need to prioritize their health.”
Representatives from the following organizations will be in attendance to share information:
• Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation
• Dutchess County Department of Health
• Dyson Breast Center at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, part of the Northwell Health Cancer Institute
• MidHudson Regional Hospital, a member of WMC Health
In addition, attendees can enjoy family-friendly craft activities centered around breast cancer awareness to show support for survivors and those currently navigating a diagnosis.
