Bridge to be Replaced on Washington Avenue in Fishkill

Published: 8/26/2022

Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced work to replace a bridge on Washington Avenue in the Town of Fishkill is expected to begin on or about September 6th. The bridge, located over the Fishkill Creek at the intersection of Maple Street and Petticoat Lane, will be replaced to ensure the safety and stability of the bridge and roadway for motorists.

Project work will involve replacing the structure with a new, wider bridge that will include sidewalks on both sides. The new bridge will be built adjacent to the existing structure, allowing the current bridge and roadway to remain open during construction, however there will be occasional single-lane traffic patterns over the course of the project. The new bridge is expected to open to traffic in the summer of 2023.

Washington Avenue averages approximately 5,544 vehicles per day.

Motorists are advised to plan for additional time and to exercise extra caution near the construction site, obey the posted speed limits, traffic advisory signs, and the directions from flaggers in the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and other motorists.
