POUGHKEEPSIE … Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino and Office of Veterans Affairs Director Adam Roche invite residents to attend Dutchess County’s Memorial Day ceremony at the Dutchess County War Memorial on Monday, May 25 at 11 a.m. The Dutchess County War Memorial is located at John K. Rinaldi Memorial Park at the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Main Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
Residents, veterans and their families will gather to honor the brave service members who gave their lives in defense of our nation. The remembrance will include remarks from local leaders as well as wreath laying and stone placement ceremonies, presentation of colors by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Color Guard, Pledge of Allegiance by Scout Troop 3055, musical performances, “Taps” and a keynote address by Sgt. Sean Robie, United States Marine Corps, Retired.
Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino said, “So many of our Dutchess County neighbors have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country and keeping us free. We will never forget their courage nor their heroism. I encourage everyone to take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day and honor those who gave everything for our liberty.”
Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. military. Observed on the last Monday of May, it’s a time for the nation to come together and reflect on their sacrifice and express our gratitude.
Residents are encouraged to honor local veterans by attending any of the numerous Memorial Day events happening throughout the county. Dutchess County Veterans Affairs contacted municipal and community groups and put together a schedule of Memorial Day observances occurring across the region.
