The Dutchess County Office for the Aging (OFA) has announced in-person classes for “Medicare 101” classes have resumed, for the first time since early 2020, following more than a year of virtual sessions.  The first in-person session was hosted today at the Pavilion at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck, with additional offerings hosted by OFA planned in the coming weeks.

Medicare 101 classes are designed to help people interested in obtaining information on Medicare enrollment, Medicare Advantage Plans, benefits, supplement choices, EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage) and other prescription options, Medicaid and the Medicare Savings Programs and long term care payment choices.   Classes are open to individuals who are newly eligible for Medicare, current Medicare beneficiaries, and those who want to learn more about the Medicare program.

In partnership with the Office at the Aging, the Pavilion at Brookmeade, located at 34 Brookmeade Drive in Rhinebeck, hosts Medicare 101 classes on the fourth Monday of every month at 4 p.m.; the next class will take place on Aug 23rd.

OFA also hosts “Medicare 101” classes in the Community Room of the Poughkeepsie Galleria (2001 South Road, Poughkeepsie) on the third Wednesday of every month, starting at 10 a.m., with the next taking place on Aug. 18th.

Similar in-person classes are scheduled to continue, provided the number of local COVID-19 cases stays low and COVID-related restrictions remain lifted. If circumstances do not permit in-person classes to continue, the option to return to remote classes, if necessary, remains.

Space is limited for both in-person and online classes; residents can reserve their space by calling 845-486-2555.

This fall, OFA will again publish its annual “Medicare Spotlight” newsletter to help people prepare for Medicare open enrollment.  To receive a copy, contact the Office for the Aging at 845-486-2555 to get a hard copy mailed or get signed up for OFA emails and receive electronically.
