One of Dutchess County Department of Public Works’ (DPW) largest road improvement projects of the year begins this week on Myers Corners Road (CR-93) between All Angels Hill Road (CR-94) and State Route 376 in the Town of Wappinger.  Project work includes reconstruction of the road to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians with new pavement, drainage, signage, and expanded shoulders. Preliminary work begins tomorrow including removing trees and clearing shoulder areas. The full project is expected to take approximately 15 months to complete.

Myers Corners Road is one of Dutchess County’s most utilized roadways.  The roadway section between Route 376 and All Angels Hill Road where the work will be complete averages approximately 8,500 vehicles per day.   The project will enhance the quality and safety of this important roadway.

The road work includes expanded shoulders as part of Dutchess County’s “Complete Streets” policy to support safe travel of all kinds including walking, bicycling, riding the bus, and driving, by people of all ages and abilities.

Due to the extent of the improvements to be made, frequent lane closures and significant delays should be anticipated over the course of the project. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes during the construction period.  If travel through the construction area cannot be avoided, motorists should plan for additional time and exercise extra caution, obey the posted speed limits, traffic advisory signs, and the directions from flaggers in the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and other motorists.

Total project costs are estimated at $7.57 million, of which 80% is Federally funded. The local share is funded in part by a $1.13 million State grant with the County funding the remaining $380,000.
