In an ongoing effort to engage students with the trades, Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, NYS Senator Michelle Hinchey and the Hyde Park Central School District are partnering to host an informational skilled trades fair to give students and young adults the opportunity to learn more about different career paths available in the Hudson Valley area. Representatives from various trades will be on hand for attendees to ask questions and learn more about future opportunities.

“There’s no one-size fits all approach when it comes to determining your future, and ensuring our  students know all the career options available to them is a top priority,” said Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino “The Hudson Valley is home to so many unique opportunities, including those in the trades, and this event aims to equip our students and young adults with information so they can be as prepared as possible.”

Senator Michelle Hinchey said, “Our Skilled Trades & Jobs Fair in Hyde Park was a big hit last year that connected employers with local families and students—many walked away with job interviews lined up, and others were inspired to pursue careers in the trades. We’re excited to bring this important service back to the community, and we hope to see folks from across Dutchess County at FDR High School on October 30th!”

Superintendent Dr. Pedro Roman expressed his keen interest in the event, stating, "We are delighted to co-sponsor this initiative once again, which will undoubtedly benefit our community. Our Hyde Park leaders and learners will have the invaluable opportunity to engage with a diverse range of community businesses, organizations, and partners. Participants will be able to inquire about apprenticeship programs, educational pathways, and potential career opportunities, while also supporting local businesses in their search for qualified employees. This event represents a mutually beneficial endeavor for all involved."

"FDR High School is excited to host a skilled trade fair for the third year. It is an excellent opportunity for our students to speak with experts in their respective fields and learn about the various opportunities that our community has to offer. I would encourage all students to attend the trade fair and speak with as many vendors as possible. It is my hope that all in attendance leave the skilled trade fair with insights of the various fields," said Michael Ruella, Principal of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School.

This free event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 6 PM to 8 PM and is open to the public and students from surrounding Dutchess County school districts. No RSVP is required to attend
