Two Culverts to be Replaced in Dover

Published: 4/30/2026

Poughkeepsie…The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced work will begin on or about May 11th to replace two culverts, one on Chestnut Ridge Road (CR-23) and one on Halls Corners Road (CR-24) in the Town of Dover. The roadways will be closed one at time, starting with Chestnut Ridge Road, in the vicinity of construction as each culvert is replaced. The intersection will remain open and access to nearby driveways will be maintained. A detour will be posted directing travelers to New York State Route 343.

Project work will include the removal and replacement of both culverts, widening the road to include the addition of 4-foot shoulders, and installing new guiderail to increase safety for pedestrians and motorists. Construction is anticipated to be complete with the roads re-opened to traffic, by the end of 2026.

Motorists are advised to plan for additional time and to exercise extra caution near the construction site and on the detour, obey the posted speed limits, and traffic advisory signs and the directions from flaggers near the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and other motorists.
