POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - At the April Meeting of the Dutchess County Veterans Affairs Committee, members unanimously elected Virgil Capollari as the new Chair. Capollari was appointed to the Committee in December of 2021 by Legislature Chairman Gregg Pulver.
“Virgil Capollari’s dedication to service has been evident not only in his time in the military, but during his time at home since his discharge,” said Chairman Gregg Pulver. “Virgil continues to work tirelessly to better our local community and has a record of going above and beyond for our local veterans. I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes as the new Chair of the Veterans Advisory Committee, and I thank him for his commitment to ensuring that Dutchess County provides our veterans with as much help and support as possible.”
Virgil Capollari said, “It is a real honor to be selected and appointed Chairman to the Dutchess County Veterans Affairs Committee. As a United States Air Force Veteran, I understand the problems facing the veterans community. Currently I am a trustee to VFW Post 5913 where I remain active in supporting my fellow battle buddies and providing a voice for them and other Vets. Servicing as the Chair of the Fishkill Veterans Committee and as a member of the Town of East Fishkill Veterans Committee has helped immensely. I am excited to bring my experiences and knowledge to all veterans who call Dutchess County home.”
Dutchess County Executive William F.X. O’Neil said, “Dutchess County has long served the courageous men and women who have defended our freedom. As a veteran myself, I appreciate Virgil Capollari continuing his service more than two decades after his military career concluded, now working to assure Dutchess County’s heroes receive the benefits and protections they rightly deserve. We look forward to his contributions to Dutchess County’s ongoing pledge to serve the veterans who have defended our freedom.”
Virgil Capollari served in the United States Air Force from 1995 to 2003 where he worked in various sensitive supporting critical national security objectives, including foreign assignments and conflicts in the Balkans and the Middle East.
The primary responsibility of the Veterans Affairs Committee is to make recommendations to and advise the County Executive and Legislature on issues that may be affecting local veterans and suggest potential legislation that may benefit the veteran community.
