For 16 years, from 2004-2020, Legislator Barbara Jeter-Jackson was a stalwart member of the Dutchess County Legislature. Her district represented part of the City of Poughkeepsie and she served them as well as each citizen of the County faithfully. During her entire tenure, she sat as a member of the Criminal Justice Council and a liaison to the Youth Board. She served four years as Minority Leader and spent many years on the Budget, Finance and Personnel, Government Services and Administration, and Family and Human Services Committees. Prior to the Legislature, she served on the City of Poughkeepsie Common Council and the City of Poughkeepsie School Board.
She carried herself with a gentleness, warmth, and open heart that was felt by others by her mere presence. Her openness to work with others and her steadfast focus on enriching the lives of our constituents was a guiding light for us all. In all things in her life, she was a servant of others.
She is irreplaceable but we will honor her by attempting to treat others as she did.
