The Dutchess County Legislature, on Saturday, August 14, conducted an extensive tour of four agriculture parcels in the Eastern portion of the County. Open to all Legislators, the tour stopped at Greg Pulver’s farm in Pine Plains, Pleasant View Farm in Millerton, Coon Brothers’ Farm in Amenia, and Abel’s Tree Farm in Unionvale.
“This educational tour provided someone like me, who represents the City and Town of Poughkeepsie, the unique opportunity to see farms in the Eastern part of our County. At Gary’s urging we organized this tour so that Legislators have the opportunity to learn more about agriculture and land conservancy in Dutchess County,” said Chairman Rob Rolison.
“It is important for Legislators to see the agricultural parcels that are vital to the economic survival of Dutchess County. These lands, which are protected by the Legislature, comprise nearly 28 percent of all land in the County. Beyond adding to the beauty and tranquility of Dutchess County, they produce goods that benefit our local economy,” said Majority Leader Gary Cooper.
Rolison and Cooper both thanked the Dutchess County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board as well as the Dutchess County Land Conservancy and Cornell Cooperative Extension for their assistance in scheduling this tour. The Legislators also thanked the farmers for taking the time to meet with them along the tour and the various farms that provided samples of their local products.
