DUTCHESS COUNTY LEGISLATURE CONTINUES SEARCH FOR RESIDENTS WILLING TO PARTICIPATE IN COUNTY GOVERNMENT
Rolison, Legislature encourages community-minded individuals to “get involved”
Chairman Robert Rolison (R-Poughkeepsie) announced today the Dutchess County Legislature continues to seek individuals who wish to serve as legislative appointments on various public boards, authorities, and committees as well as college students interested in an exclusive summer internship opportunity.
“When I was elected Chairman I immediately sought to create a more open process in how county appointments are made. We have already filled quite a few positions, but since it’s a fluid process there remains a need for more county residents to step forward and offer their time, energy and ideas,” said Rolison. “It is a great way for citizens to get involved in government and help their neighbors build a better Dutchess County.”
The county Legislature will consider applicants for positions on the following boards, authorities and committees in the near future:
Board of Health (at least one licensed Medical Doctor and one City of Poughkeepsie resident required; environmental conservation and/or public health experience preferred for all appointments, but not necessary)
Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Domestic Violence
Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Sex Offender Management
Environmental Management Council
Veterans’ Affairs (must be a veteran or active military personal)
Further, Chairman Rob Rolison is offering a unique opportunity for local college students who want to gain some valuable work experience in government operations over the summer. This internship at the Dutchess County Legislature is unpaid, require a minimum of 12 hours a week, and will allow students to learn about local government with a hands-on approach to county issues.
Anyone who wishes to be considered for any of these positions should provide to the Dutchess County Legislature, no later than Friday, May 28 a resume and a brief letter of intent. It is important to remember that some of these positions are highly competitive and may require unique knowledge of particular subject areas. Appointment material can be sent to the attention of Michael Ellison at 22 Market Street, Poughkeepsie NY 12601, faxed to 486-2113, or e-mailed to mellison@co.dutchess.ny.us. Questions and concerns can be directed to the Dutchess County Legislature at 486-2100.
