Chairman Robert Rolison (R-Poughkeepsie) announced today that the Dutchess County Legislature continues to seek individuals who wish to serve as legislative appointments on various public boards, authorities, and committees. Interviews for the Veteran Affairs Committee, Environmental Management Council, and Citizen Advisory Committee on Sex Offender Management will be held soon.

"In order to build a better Dutchess County we must work together,” said Rolison. “These appointments to various important and prestigious boards, authorities, and committees are crucial to the enhancement of the overall quality of life for all Dutchess County residents. With your help we can find fresh, innovative ways to tackle challenges and help our neighbors in need. We have already filled quite a few positions but, since it’s a fluid process, there remains a need for more county residents to step forward and offer their time, energy, and ideas."

The Dutchess County Legislature will consider applicants for positions on the following boards, authorities, and committees in the near future:

  • Veteran Affairs Committee is a citizens’ advisory group that reports directly to the County Legislature on veteran policy issues. These individuals must be veterans with a community-minded outlook and commitment to helping fellow veterans. Resumes are due on or before August 13th.

  • Environmental Management Council advises Dutchess County officials on matters regarding the preservation and sustainable use of the natural resources in Dutchess County, and helps to raise public awareness about local environmental issues. An advanced educational degree, and/or equivalent work experience, in the environmental field is encouraged as is a strong knowledge of and/or interest in local planning, environmental, and natural resource issues and policies. Resumes are due on or before September 1st.

  • Citizen Advisory Committee on Sex Offender Management considers all aspects of sex offender management within Dutchess County and periodically reports to the Legislature on related policy issues. Resumes are due on or before September 1st.

Anyone who wishes to be considered for any of these positions should provide to the Dutchess County Legislature a resume and a brief letter of intent on or before the specified due date. It is important to remember that some of these positions are highly competitive and may require unique knowledge of particular subject areas. Appointment material can be sent to the attention of Michael Ellison at 22 Market Street, Poughkeepsie NY 12601, faxed to 486-2113, or e-mailed to mellison@co.dutchess.ny.us. Questions and concerns can be directed to the Dutchess County Legislature at 486-2100.
