Campgrounds Operators

Campgrounds with five or more campsites available for temporary or seasonal overnight occupancy are regulated by The Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health (DBCH)

The Environmental Health Services Division (EHS) of DBCH  regularly inspects Campgrounds for health and safety concerns.

These inspections include:

  • Drinking water
  • Sewage disposal system 
  • Laundry and bathing facilities
  • Refuse storage
  • Noxious weeds
  • Campsite size
  • Electric service
  • Food service

Reporting Requirements

The operator is required to report to DBCH any of the following within 24 hours of occurrence:

  • Injury or illness occurring at a swimming pool or bathing beach 
  • A condition suspected of affecting the quantity or quality of the on-site potable water supply or constituting a public health hazard 
  • Illness suspected of being food-borne due to consumption of food from a food service establishment in the campground
