Poughkeepsie…. In recognition of September as Preparedness Month, the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) of Dutchess County will host an Amateur Radio Fun Night for anyone who is interested in learning more about how Amateur (or HAM) radio works and what it takes to get a license. The event will take place on Thursday, September 12th at 6pm at the Department of Emergency Response, 392 Creek Road in Poughkeepsie. Current HAM radio operators are welcome to meet other new and potential operators and help answer questions from attendees.
A variety of radios will be available to experiment with and instruction will be given on how HAM radio operators assist in emergencies. If an attendee is interested in further study or would like to eventually become licensed, they will be able to ask licensed HAM operators questions and learn what to expect on the exam which is scheduled for this October.
The Medical Reserve Corps of Dutchess County is part of a national network of more than 200,000 volunteers dedicated to supporting public health infrastructure as well as disaster preparedness and response in the community. Both medical professionals and non-medical volunteers are needed.
