Poughkeepsie... The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) of Dutchess County invites prospective new members to an ice cream social and informational program about the MRC on Thursday, August 24, at 6 p.m., at the Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health, 230 North Road in Poughkeepsie. The program and ice cream are free, but online registration prior to the event is required.
“Medical Reserve Corps volunteers play a vital role in public health and emergency response planning in Dutchess County,” said A. K. Vaidian, MD, MPH, commissioner of the Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health. “This event is a great opportunity for those considering membership to meet some of our active volunteers and find out how they can become involved in their community.”
The MRC of Dutchess County is comprised of both healthcare and non-healthcare volunteers as part of a national network of more than 200,000 volunteers dedicated to supporting public health infrastructure as well as disaster preparedness and response in their communities. Both medical professionals and non-medical volunteers are needed. In addition to medical volunteers, a wide variety of volunteers are needed to assist with responsibilities such as data collection, inventory coordination, patient education, phone bank coverage, crowd control, and much more.
To register to become a member of the MRC, you must first sign up through the New York State ServNY volunteer website. Once you receive your username and password, sign back into the system, choose “profile,” and pick the MRC of Dutchess County as the place you would like to volunteer.
