Poughkeepsie...The Dutchess County Division of Veterans’ Services will offer three on-campus opportunities for veterans attending Dutchess Community College (DCC) to receive assistance with entitlement submissions and ask questions about their benefits. A Veterans’ Services Officer will be available by appointment on October 26, November 30, and December 12, 2017 from noon to 5 pm in the college’s Veterans Resource Center, Hudson Hall, Room 212, at 53 Pendell Road, in Poughkeepsie.
Veterans’ Services Director Nelson Eddy Rivera, USN (Ret) said, “The Veterans Resource Center at Dutchess Community College provides a wealth of knowledge and information for those who have served our nation and returned to school, particularly our younger veterans. Dutchess County is unwavering in its commitment to our veterans, and providing a Veterans Service Officer at Dutchess’ Veterans Resource Center is the latest affirmation of that pledge – making it easier and more convenient for these brave men and women to receive the benefits they’ve earned.”
Opened on the DCC campus in Fall 2015, the Veterans Resource Center offers peer-to-peer support and provides assistance for veteran students with the admissions, financial, and registration processes. Students in the military can also receive assistance with career counseling, campus life information, and guidance on other aspects of student life that will ensure a smooth transition to completing their degrees.
In addition, the Dutchess County Division of Veterans’ Services helps veterans and their families receive benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other government agencies, as well as offering assistance with replacing military records, applying for medals, filing claims, and applying for survivor’s benefits and burial benefits.
