The DCACP was created in response to the County of Dutchess’s duty to provide legal representation to indigent persons in Dutchess County’s Appellate, Criminal, and Family Courts. These services are mandated under Article 18-B of the County Law.
Our mission is to improve the quality of indigent legal representation by managing, supporting, and training the Dutchess County Assigned Counsel Panel.
The services of our panel attorneys are provided when the Public Defender’s Office declares a “conflict” which precludes that office from representing any particular individual.
The DCACP is committed to supporting Panel Attorneys in zealously advocating on behalf of their clients and meeting the quality standards of the program.
The Dutchess County Office of Assigned Counsel (DCACP) was created via funding provided by the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services (NYS ILS).
We are located at 22 Market Street, 5th Floor, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
The primary objective of the DCACP is to provide our attorneys with the training and skills necessary to represent their clients with the highest level of knowledge and professionalism.
The DCACP acts as a liaison and advocate for Panel Attorneys in all interactions with the judicial system. Additionally, this office provides information and assistance required to meet and exceed state and county goals for effective legal representation.
