The Dutchess County Public Defender’s Office is a legal service component of Dutchess County Government. We provide quality legal representation to clients who have criminal charges filed against them and who have been determined to be indigent. We are also available to assist indigent individuals who have been contacted regarding a criminal police matter before they have been formally charged. We advocate for the protection of the constitutional rights of our clients and work toward achieving results that have the greatest likelihood to help and/or rehabilitate our clients.
We also provide legal representation in Family Court including, among other matters, family offense, neglect, abuse, custody and child support matters. We are committed to protecting the rights of parents as they navigate interactions with Child Protective Services. We counsel clients, ensuring they have knowledge of their rights while interacting with Child Protective Services including, before and after court intervention.
In-take interviews are conducted in the office daily between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m on a first-come, first-served basis.
