The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports responding to a report of an armed subject in the Town of North East at approximately 12:40 pm on 6/9/25.

On the above date & time Deputies responded to a residence in Amenia to conduct a welfare check on a male subject. Upon arrival the subject was not there but it was learned that he was in a wooded area near the State Route 199/State Route 44 intersection in North East, was armed, and had allegedly fired a shot into the air as a warning to those looking for him. Numerous additional personnel responded to the area and set up a perimeter to contain the situation, and after several hours of negotiation the man was taken into custody without further incident. The subject has been identified as Garrett O’Holloran (age 32), and two (2) firearms were recovered as he was being taken into custody.

After being taken into custody Mr. O’Holloran was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for treatment, and remains there at this time. The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are possible as it continues.

Members from numerous different Sheriff’s Office units such as Patrol, Detectives, Emergency Services, Crisis Negotiation, K-9, UAS (drones), and ATV’s all responded to the scene. The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by outside agencies including the New York State Police, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Town of Pine Plains Police, Millerton Fire Department, and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
