Beekman Man Charged with Armed Burglary

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Christopher Ortiz, age 42 of Beekman NY, on 8/1/24 in connection with the investigation into a residential burglary in the Town of Beekman.

At approximately 6:40 pm on 8/1/24 Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Pine Grove Motel on Route 55 in Beekman for a report of a burglary in progress. Mr. Ortiz was later taken into custody following further investigation by Sheriff’s Office Detectives, and is accused of forcibly entering a motel room while armed with a knife. This incident is not believed to be random and there were no injuries as a result.

At this time Mr. Ortiz has been charged with burglary 1st degree (felony), criminal mischief 4th degree (misd), and menacing 2nd degree (misd). After being processed he was arraigned before the Town of LaGrange Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center with no bail, and is due to appear before the Town of Beekman Court on 8/6/24.  

As with any criminal case the charges described above are merely accusations and Mr. Ortiz is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
