The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force has been investigating the sale of narcotics and dangerous drugs in the Wappinger and Poughkeepsie areas. Community members reached out to the Drug Task Force with information regarding a subject selling narcotics and dangerous drugs while using multiple alias to conceal his identity. Information was obtained that the narcotic and dangerous drug dealer also worked in a drug rehabilitation center and worked as drug counselor.
Drug Task Force Agents initiated an investigation and identified Alvis J Lewis Jr, age 54, from the Village of Wappingers Falls as a narcotic and dangerous drug dealer operating in the Wappinger and Poughkeepsie areas. Drug Task Force Agents were able to purchase crack cocaine from Lewis on multiple occasions throughout the investigation. In addition, Drug Task Force Agents where able to verify through surveillance that Lewis did in fact work the overnight hours at an in-patient drug rehabilitation facility in Carmel N.Y.
Drug Task Force Agents obtained a search warrant for Lewis’ residence as well as multiple vehicles he had in his possession. In the late evening hours of 01/14/2025 Drug Task Force Agents, with the assistance of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Service Unit (SWAT), stopped Lewis operating his vehicle in the Town of Fishkill and took him into custody. Drug Task Force Agents and the Sheriff’s Office then executed the warrant at his residence off Sergeant Palmateer Way in the Village of Pawling resulting in the seizure of crack cocaine packaged and ready for sale.
Lewis was charged with the following offenses:
(1) Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, intent to sell, a class B Felony
(1) Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree, a class C Felony
Lewis was later arraigned in the Village of Wappingers Falls Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center without bail. Several additional charges are pending in this case against Lewis related to this investigation and will be filed by Drug Task Force Agents.
The Drug Task Force encourages the Dutchess County community to report narcotic and dangerous drug dealers to the Drug Task Force.
As with any criminal case, the charges described above are merely an accusation and those individuals named in this release are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
