Drug Task Force – High Crime Area Targeted by the Drug Task Force Nets Newburgh Fentanyl Dealer

The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force has been investigating the sale of fentanyl and crack cocaine in the area of Kennedy Fried Chicken located at 472 Main Street in the City of Poughkeepsie. This area has drawn the attention of Drug Task Force Agents due to recent overdoses in that area as well as reports of criminal activity by area residents.

After a month long investigation Agents identified Jermaine Boykin, Age 46, as a fentanyl dealer from the City of Newburgh who was frequenting the area of Kennedy Fried Chicken to sell dangerous drugs. Drug Task Force Agents made several fentanyl and cocaine purchases from Boykin over the course of the investigation at that location and other locations throughout the City of Poughkeepsie.

On 06/04/24 Agents from the Drug Task Force apprehended Boykin in the area of Kennedy Fried Chicken with the assistance of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit and members from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Emergency Services Unit. Boykin identified his street name to Agents as “Murder” while in custody. Boykin was charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, a Class B Felony and held at the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office pending his arraignment in City Court later this date. Several additional charges related to his drug sales are pending.

The Drug Task Force was assisted by the District Attorney’s Violent Crime and Dangerous Drug Bureau during this investigation.

The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force warns the public that cocaine is often mixed with fentanyl, a dangerous drug that is the leading cause of overdose deaths in Dutchess County.
