If you have information regarding an imminent threat to public safety -
The Dutchess County Threat Assessment Group (DCTAG) is dedicated to protecting the safety of our community by identifying individuals who may pose a threat. Our goal is to prevent targeted violence through early intervention and evidence-based strategies. When a report is received regarding potentially threatening behavior, our team conducts a thorough assessment and manages the situation proactively. We also offer supportive resources to those involved and impacted.
Our diverse group includes mental health professionals, law enforcement, case managers, educators from schools and colleges, and emergency management experts. Through collaboration, we are working together to prevent violence and ensure the safety of Dutchess County.
We encourage you to take action if you notice concerning behaviors. Your intervention could make a significant difference in your community - if you see something, say something.
There are certain behaviors that may suggest someone is on the Pathway to Violence. The presence of one or more of these behaviors does not necessarily mean someone is on the Pathway, however, to reduce the risk of violence, it is important that these circumstances be assessed by specially trained individuals.
Concerning behaviors may include:
TARGETED VIOLENCE is a premeditated act of violence directed at a specific individual, group, or location, regardless of motivation and generally unrelated to other criminal activity. Targeted violence includes mass shootings, hate crimes, foreign and domestic terrorism, and violent extremism.
If you have questions or concerns about whether to report something, or to follow up on an existing report, please email us at DCTAG@dutchessny.gov.
REMINDER: If you have knowledge of a suspected, planned, or openly voiced targeted act of violence, call 911 immediately.
Every report is evaluated to determine the appropriate level of response using an evidence-based threat assessment process. We will take action to intervene to help keep our community safe.
Intervention actions, if necessary, could include involving law enforcement, crisis intervention teams, or referrals to mental health professionals.
If your report includes your contact information, the DCTAG will let you know we are addressing the concern and contact you, or others who may be impacted, when necessary and appropriate.
