The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force has been working on an investigation into narcotic and dangerous drug dealers operating in or near Poughkeepsie Housing Authority facilities throughout the City of Poughkeepsie. This investigation was started after members of the community reported this activity to the Drug Task Force.

Drug Task Force Agents began purchasing cocaine from Vincent Smith, age 66, who was selling cocaine to vulnerable community members out of the Phillip Allen Swartz Facility located at 378 Mansion Street in the City of Poughkeepsie. The investigation led to Drug Task Force Agents obtaining a search warrant for Mr. Smith’s residence located at that address. In the afternoon of 09/26/24 Drug Task Force Agents executed the search warrant and arrested Mr. Smith. The arrest and search warrant resulted in the seizure of crack cocaine which Mr. Smith had manufactured or “cooked” inside the apartment for the purpose of selling.

Mr. Smith was charged with the following offenses:

(1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree with intent to sell, a Class B Felony
(1) Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th degree possessing 1/8 ounce or more of narcotics, a Class C Felony.

The Drug Task Force would like to thank the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Division and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Community Policing Unit for their assistance with executing the search warrant. The Drug Task Force will continue to investigate the sale of narcotics and dangerous drugs in Dutchess County.
