One Person Charged After Fatal Stabbing Following Football Game

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Nestor A. Ortiz-Ocampo (age 18 of the City of Poughkeepsie) in connection with a stabbing that took place immediately after a football game at Arlington High School in LaGrange at approximately 9:00 pm on 9/17/21. 

On the above date and time numerous Deputies responded along with the New York State Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, City of Poughkeepsie Police, Town of East Fishkill Police, and Village of Wappingers Falls Police to assist Deputies who were dealing with a large fight and stabbing that occurred just after the game. One 16-year-old Arlington student victim was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital where they were later pronounced dead, and that person’s identity will not be released at this time. Earlier reports of multiple stabbing victims were premature and inaccurate.  

During the investigation Mr. Ortiz-Ocampo was interviewed, and at the conclusion of the interviews was taken into custody. At this time he has been charged with Manslaughter in the 1st degree (felony), and as of this writing is due to be arraigned later today (9/18/21). Mr. Ortiz-Ocampo is a former student at Arlington High School.

At this time no further specifics about the case will be released in order to protect the integrity of future court proceedings, however the investigation is continuing and anyone who may have been present during the incident is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office. This case was brought to a successful outcome through the hard work of the Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Detective Bureaus, as well as the numerous other law enforcement agencies mentioned above. Also assisting were members of the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, LaGrange Fire Department, Mobile Life, EMStar, Northern Dutchess Paramedics, and Arlington School District officials. Sheriff Anderson and the entire Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all involved agencies for their assistance and dedication in helping to maintain order and bring the case to a successful outcome.

As with any criminal case the charge described above is merely an accusation and Mr. Ortiz-Ocampo is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau, and more information may be released as it becomes available.
