One vehicle fatality under investigation

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a fatal one vehicle crash which occurred on Clove Road in the Town of Union Vale at approximately 6:40 pm on 11/28/25.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck operated by Ryan E. Nichols (age 25 of Poughquag) was traveling southbound on Clove Rd near Mack Rd when the operator lost control and the vehicle struck a tree. As a result the operator suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, and at this time unsafe speed appears to be a contributing factor.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office and Town of Union Vale Fire Department. The investigation is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office’s Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit, and more information may be released at a later time as it becomes available.
