Pedestrian Killed in Wappinger Crash

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a car-pedestrian fatal crash which occurred in the Town of Wappinger at approximately 5:30 pm on 12/21/24. 

On the above date and time Deputies responded to State Route 376 near Hackensack Heights Rd in the Town of Wappinger for a report of a car-pedestrian crash. The pedestrian, a 67-year-old male, suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at Vassar Hospital. At this time the identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of the next-of-kin. 

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the pedestrian was crossing Route 376 near Hackensack Heights Rd when they were struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Route 376. The operator of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, and no charges have been filed. At this time the primary factor in the crash appears to be unsafe crossing on the part of the pedestrian.         

The investigation is continuing by Sheriff’s Office Detectives and the Crash Investigation Unit.
