Three subjects charged in connection with numerous burglaries

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Town of Ulster Police and several other police agencies from nearby counties, reports the arrest of three (3) subjects in connection with a string of commercial burglaries which have occurred over approximately the last three weeks.

During the early morning hours of 6/4/23 Dutchess County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a burglar alarm at a business in the Village of Rhinebeck, while at the same time the Town of Ulster Police in Ulster County were responding to different burglar alarm in their jurisdiction. Both alarms were the result of confirmed break-ins, and as the Sheriff’s Deputies began their investigation the Town of Ulster Police simultaneously located two possible suspects in their jurisdiction. Both of those subjects were taken into custody by Ulster Police, however a third subject then fled in a vehicle back into Dutchess County. That third subject was located and taken into custody by the New York State Police, and he along with the two others were ultimately turned over to the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau for further investigation.

Further investigation led to the charging of the below individuals, who are believed to be responsible for the commercial burglaries described above as well as several others in Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, and Sullivan Counties. The identities of the three defendants, along with their charges, are as follows:

  1. Rickie Miranda Jr.,age 22 of Bristol CT. Charged with 3 counts of burglary in the 3rd degree, which is a felony. After being processed was released to the Tuxedo Police Department in Orange County for further investigation.   
     
  2. Jacob A. Miranda, age 20 of Bristol CT. Charged with 3 counts of burglary in the 3rd degree, which is a felony. After being processed was released to the Tuxedo Police Department in Orange County for further investigation.   
     
  3. Thomas C. Durant, age 19 of Burlington CT. Charged with possession of burglar’s tools, conspiracy 5th degree, criminal facilitation 4th degree, and criminal possession of stolen property 5th degree (all misdemeanors). After being processed was released on appearance tickets.  

The investigation is continuing, and more charges are possible at a later time. During this investigation the Sheriff’s Office was assisted by numerous agencies including the New York State Police, Town of Ulster Police, Town of East Fishkill Police, Montgomery Police (Orange Co), Tuxedo Police (Orange Co), and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Imperati would like to thank these agencies for their assistance and multi-agency cooperation which was instrumental in the successful apprehension of these subjects.

As with any criminal case, the charges described above are merely accusations and all three defendants identified above are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
