Pine Plains man arrested for arson stemming from 2010 incident

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Cale W. Cornell, age 23 of Pine Plains, for arson and grand larceny stemming from a 2010 incident.

Mr. Cornell was arrested on 11/7/13 after the investigation showed that he allegedly stole a vehicle, crashed it, and then lit it on fire during the early morning hours of 1/21/10. The vehicle, a 2006 Pontiac van, was allegedly taken by Mr. Cornell who is accused of then crashing it into a rock wall and a telephone pole before lighting it on fire. The vehicle had been left with the keys in it before being stolen.

Mr. Cornell has been charged with arson in the 3rd degree (Class C Felony) and grand larceny in the 3rd degree (Class D Felony). Mr. Cornell was arraigned at the Town of Pine Plains Court and was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. As with any criminal case, the charges described above are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
