The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a one-car fatal auto accident, which occurred on State Route 292 in Holmes (Town of Pawling) at approximately 12:30 am on 10/20/13.

The operator of the vehicle has been identified as Kevin Taylor, age 17 of Holmes. The passengers of the vehicle have been identified as Kendal Spray (age 17) and Emily Ketchum (age 18). Mr. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene, and both passengers were transported to Danbury Hospital in Connecticut for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries. All occupants appear to have been wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that Mr. Taylor was operating a 2004 Subaru Impreza southbound on Route 292 near the Dutchess/Putnam border, when he lost control while traveling through curves in the roadway. The vehicle then spun and struck a utility pole and numerous trees before coming to rest. The investigation is continuing, and unsafe speed is thought to be the main contributing factor in the crash. Drug and/or alcohol involvement is being investigated, but is not thought to be a factor at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pawling Fire Department. The investigation is continuing and more information may be released as it becomes available.
